New York City Police Department


The New York City Police Department is the largest municipal police force in the world, and has the primary responsibility for law enforcement and investigation within the five boroughs of New York City. When created in 1845, it was modeled after London's Metropolitan Police. The NYPD is considered to be the first "modern" style police department in the United States. The NYPD boasts a broad array of specialized services, offering expertise in tactical operations, K-9, marine/diving, aviation (helicopters), bomb disposal, counter-terrorism, intelligence, anti-gang, narcotics, public transportation, and public housing. NYPD has extensive crime scene investigation and laboratory resources, as well as units which assist with computer crime investigations.
